Casting agents thought that Black was a good actress for the part, despite the fact that the creators of the show had planned to cast a U.S. actress. Black recorded a video and was then invited to Sydney to perform an audition and landed the part of Aeryn Sun on "Farscape." She played the role with strength and toughness yet she also displayed a strong sexual connection to her Co-star Ben Browder who played human astronaut John Crichton. Aeryn was a very watchable and intriguing character over the course of the series, and she gained legions of loyal fans. At the conclusion of the series, Black appeared on two seasons of "Stargate SG-1" as Vala Mal Doran and continued to expand her voiceovers on film, television and video games. Following a recurring role in "The Originals" , Black returned to show television with the drama "Containment" An exotic looking brunette who could project both force and an edgy breath, Australian actress Claudia Black was a hit with fans due to her role in the co-starring series as Aeryn Sun who is a commando pilot, trained to keep her temper under control, on "Farscape" (Sci-Fi Channel in 1999-2003). Black, a Sydney born performer won her first Globe Shakespeare Competition in 1990 and toured Europe with her character Portia in the play "The Merchant of Venice."
