Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine Jazmine, who is Philadelphia native, was born and raised there. Her mother Pam is a former vocalist for the backup band of Philadelphia International Records. Her father gave her an opportunity to be the curator of the Historic Strawberry Mansion. She along with her family moved in to the historic famous landmark. As a 2005 Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts graduated She is an instructor in the field of vocal music. Sullivan began singing in the children's choir as a contralto before joining the adult choir a few years afterwards. Sullivan was not exposed to secular music. She recalls when she was singing in solos in the church, when someone advised her to join a gospel label, but wasn't ready for the task. "Then McDonald's offered a competition to kids from cities. After that, I was given the opportunity to perform Accept What God Wills on Showtime Apollo. The crowd was enthusiastic." Stevie Wonder sang her part at her grandson's 13th birthday. Sullivan signed her first contract with Jive Records when she was fifteen. There, she recorded the entire album but the album never came out. Sullivan was then removed off the record label. Her work had been in good connection to Missy Elliott. Elliott produced many of her tracks which included "Backstabbers" the track that was written by Timbaland.
